Hershey wants the media environment in which its products are advertised to reflect favorably on its image as a manufacturer of wholesome, quality products. Although Hershey is not attempting to be a corporate censor for the American public, it does wish to encourage programming and publications to maintain high standards of taste. Of particular importance are programs and media directed primarily to youth.
Specifically, Hershey avoids programs and publications which contain:
- graphic and unnecessary violence
- explicit sexual situations
- excessive use of vulgarity or profanity
- glamorization of drug or alcohol use
- sensationalism involving delicate and controversial social subjects
